This has the evergreen growth of Spathoglottis plicata, but the flowers are vivid almost iridescent red magenta, much richer in colour. Note the large dark red flower bracts. It clumps quickly in a humus rich soil media, and will need a good sized pot. Due to 2 digital camera constraints, the colour is much darker than illustrated.
Winter in colder climes may force dormancy, at which time the bulbs should be keep somewhat dryer.
Spring and new leads indicate the best repot time, and Spathoglottis benefit from frequent repots into fresh media. This may be originally from New Guinea, having been in one or two North Queensland collections for decades.
