A deciduous species with pseudobulbs like a thickened cane. Best grown in a small pot or basket and when in growth, it requires lots of water and fertiliser. A rich media is required, and in the cooler months when the plant is dormant, it should be kept almost dry, with just sufficient water to prevent shriveling of the cane. Cyrtopodiums can be treated much like the other winter dormant species such as Catasetum etc. A warm to intermediate grower, maximum sunlight short of leaf burn and good ventilation are requisites.
