Clusters waxy white, amethyst purple lip, bottle brush type. Dendrobium amethystaglossum is a section pedilonum species, characterised by the dense clusters of showy flowers. A small pot or basket with a media that will stay damp but not wet suits most of this section. The old canes are deciduous to flower, with the flower heads produced along the cane. A rest in winter is essential, withhold water but keep just damp until new growths appear, then lots of water and fertiliser will produce tall robust new canes that flower the following year. Dendrobium amethystaglossum grows best in a small pot or basket, needs good air circulation and rests during the cooler months. A Philippines species, mountain plant, but very adaptable.
