Dark green leaves mottled paler green, and dark purple underneath, make this an attractive plant. It is a shade grower, and requires a media that will stay damp but not wet. Perhaps of benefit is a shallow but wider container, to allow the roots to spread out as they would in the wild. Medias for Paphiopedilum would number as many as the growers who cultivate them. Basic requirements are good drainage, fine enough not to dry out hard, and a light application of fertiliser when the plant is in active growth. Some sort of overhead cover to prevent water dripping or excess rain, will protect the foliage of Paph godfroyeae and the other mottled leaf species.
