A basket culture species, so that the pendulous spikes can grow thu the side or bottom of the basket. Stanhopeas seem to grow readily in a variety of medias, provided the media will stay damp but not soggy wet.
Provided the plants are well fed, they will take a fairly sunny position, and when in new growth, lots of water anf fertiliser will develop large plants. Stanhopea xytriophora is an intermediate grower from Bolivia.
