A Pedilonum section Dendrobe, with bottle brush type clusters of magenta purple flowers borne along the leafless canes. Dendrobium miyakei is a very colourful species, and is very tolerant of growing condition. A small pot or basket with a media that stays damp but not wet and ample water and fertiliser when in active growth will produce long canes. Maximum sunlight short of leaf burn encourages full flowering. Originally found in Formosa, imports of supposedly Dendrobium topaziacum from Philippines were found to be this species.
