A bulbous species somewhat like a swollen stem bifoliate Cattleya, and requiring much the same conditions as Cattlyea. The spikes are produced from the base of each pseudobulb, and old spikes should not be cut back too close to the rhizome, as the new lead will develop there. Use a shallow pot or basket, an open well drained media and after flowering, give a drier rest until the new leads appear. An intermediate to warm grower, it will develop into a spectacular specimen. Epidendrum stamfordianum comes from Central America.
